Shortly after getting married, Debbie and Jerry moved to Kirksville, Missouri, so Jerry could attend medical school, but soon discovered that God also had brought them to a loving church family. For over thirty years they have served God in various capacities within the church having led small group meetings, served the youth in all age groups, and passionately shared their pastoral hearts to help build God’s Kingdom in a way that brings glory to His name. Debbie has worked as a nurse, teacher, and business owner, while Jerry has worked in the emergency department of the local hospital. Debbie’s gift for hospitality has allowed them to have people from all over the world spend time in their home. Both have a heart for the church world wide and Jerry has been able to take each of the children to the Philippines to experience the Lord’s church in a different culture.
Debbie enjoys all types of crafting, including cross stitch and jewelry making. Both have developed a love for leather work, especially making various types of bags and purses. Jerry enjoys music, playing several instruments and having written several songs, including the songs for a bluegrass band he and his daughter played in several years ago. While the children were young, most of their time was spent at every game, practice, or performance cheering for their kids. All three children graduated from the local university, and two have completed doctoral programs. Two marriages and two grandchildren have increased the size of their family, as well as adding more love and fun.
When they became empty nesters, they asked God not to retire them, but to keep them working full-time in His Kingdom. He answered by continuing them in the discipling of others, opening the doors to writing, and bringing more people into their home. Their joy for travel has allowed Debbie to see the amazing Sistine Chapel and Jerry to salmon fish in Alaska. They both believe that if they don’t put limits on God, there is no end to the adventures and experiences He will bring to them. They look forward to what He brings in the future.
